Ada dua macam rabies, yaitu rabies ganas dan rabies tenang.
Tanda-tanda rabies ganas:
- Hewan menjadi ganas, suka mengigit apa saja
- Ekor atau buntutnya dilengkungkan diantara perut dan kedua paha
- Tidak menurut pada perintah pemilik
- Keluar air liur berlebihan
- Kejang-kejang kemudian lumpuh
- Biasanya hewan akan mati setelah 4/7 hari sejak timbul gejala atau paling lama 12 hari setelah proses gigit.
Tanda-Tanda Rabies Tenang:
- Bersembunyi di tempat tenang
- Tidak mampu menelan, mulut terbuka
- Kejang-kejang berlangsung singkat
- Kelumpugan
- Kematian dalam waktu cepat
